Vows

You know, its easy to say vows when your standing at the alter on your wedding day.
It's easy to say them, in all of the excitement, and not know fully what you are saying.

I think, that it takes time to really understand the things that you are saying.
To understand the extreme commitment that you are making.

Am I being loving, kind, and respectful to my husband in good times as well as bad times?
Am I being loving, kind, and respectful to my husband in wealthy times as well as in poor times?
Am I being loving, kind, and respectful to my husband in health as well as in sickness?

When we are saying our vows, we are saying "yes, I will" to all of those questions.
I want to be sure that I am honestly living out my vows each and every day. Vows aren't just a wedding day thing, they are each and every day for as long we live. In the greatest moments and in the crappiest moments.

Think about it. Are you really living your vows?

  1. This is something I think of often. Marriage is a covenant...crazy to think about. But cool, too :)

  3. What a thought-provoking post! It is harder to live the vows when one of us feels tired or overwhelmed. We honor each other by honoring the vows!

  4. Although single, I have to constantly be aware of the covenant I've made with the Lord. Certainly I don't always live it, but I try to. It's as if I was living my vows.

  9. It is so encouraging to see you ask this question. I've never had even a boyfriend before, and I think a lot of times it's easy for me, and I think, too, for other girls in my situation, to become jaded and think a strong, healthy marriage is impossible for people our age. To see that it is not, that you are asking the questions that probe deeply at the intentionality and well-being of your marriage, is a blessing to me I can't express. Thank you, Bethany.

  11. So convicting! Thank you for this, friend. My hubby and I really want to renew our vows one day, because you're right... it's so easy to be distracted on the wedding day that they just "blurb" out... wouldn't it be cool to just really, really say them, speak them, and focus on them... just you & hubby?! Alone on a beach? Ahhh.... loved this post!!!
