Question for cloth diapering mamas:

So, we've decided that we want to do cloth diapering.
I'm not sure exactly when we'll start up, probably not right away.. just because I imagine we'll be getting used to all kinds of new things :) But, I have a question for when we do start up!

We don't have a washer or dryer.
Have any of you mamas ever successfully done cloth diapering without the convenience of having your own washer and dryer? If so, I would really appreciate any tips that you may have to make things easier!

Oh my.. I just can't wait to put my little boys bum in a adorable cloth diaper! :)

  3. I'm not a cloth diaper mama but know a few and they wash the diapers in buckets and line dry them (they last longer this way). Hope that helps!!

  4. Not that it is any of my business, but I am very interested as to why you made the decision to do cloth diapering. I guess it just seems like so much added work to me I can't imagine wanting to do that, no matter how much I love my little baby's bum.

    1. Good question!
I would say our top two reasons for choosing cloth diapers are:
To avoid all of the chemicals (dioxin, tributyl-in, sodium polyacrylate) that are put in disposable diaper, and also the large amount of money that is saved.
Here's a good website that talks about both of those things:

  5. I know that you can go without a dryer easily because you can just let them dry overnight while you are sleeping, but washer? That's a bit tougher since you need to wash them at least twice each time (one cold wash, one hot). You can (like me) get by with a quick wash for the cold wash or just a rince, but you still need to run it again through hot water to really clean them with soap and sanitize them.

As long as you can do that - you can save money not drying them! :) I'm not an expert, but I've learned a lot over the past 8 months. Let me know if you have more questions!

  6. Go you for choosing cloth diapers! Here's the link for a national diaper service - http://diaperservice.realdiaperindustry.org/locate-a-diaper-service they pick up dirty diapers and drop off clean ones so no need for a washer and dryer. Good luck with the little one! :)

  8. There are diapers that you flush the lining down the toilet. I believe they are called G-diapers. They are an Australian company, and I believe the lining easy breaks down, so it's "friendly". I know you can buy them at Whole Foods, or online. http://www.gdiapers.com/

    Good luck brave momma ;P

  9. We're still debating whether or not to cloth diaper. The washer/dryer thing is what is holding us back at the moment. If we find a place with it's own washer/dryer, we're for sure doing it. I think we may do both disposables & cloth. My sister-in-law added up the cost of cloth diapering and compared to the water bill & electric bill, it actually was about the same. If you don't have a washer/dryer, you'd be going to a laundromat which would also be extra money, and not exactly convenient considering you would need to wash every other day, twice each time.
